It took some trial and error, but hopefully these commands will help you. Many people had to play with these settings because not every external display is the same, so what I’ve posted here might not fit your setup exactly. I am by no means an expert on these commands, I’m just posting what worked for me. I recall this happening with the Mojave update, so I sort of knew where to begin looking, but I couldn’t find exactly what I needed in one spot so I’m going to post it here. I recently upgraded my MAC from Mojave to Catalina, then also to macOS Big Sur, all went well but I noticed that my text editor fonts were looking thinner than normal. I am creating a iPhone app in which i get all countries name, logo & amp player name. I accidentally delete ist and ist, now I wont able to boot stuck at system uptime in nanoseconds. But if all you need is to set the smoothing globally, than this might be a better method. However, this app is limited and does not let you adjust font smoothing on a per-app basis (that I explain below). Stick to what you find in the /Home/Library/ folder. In particular, avoid deleting preference files found in the Library or System folders at the root of your hard drive. As you can see in the image below there is a tab called "Font Smoothing", and you'll see that there are options for you to do much of what IĮxplain below. You can delete most of them, but I would not unless you know it is safe to do so. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the Terminal/command line, I'm happy to let you know that I came across a post on Medium that introduced me to a OSX app which allows you to do most of theses commands below from a free application called TinkerTool.
